Piccini: “Valencia is our home and the Valencian people are our people”
The former Valencia CF footballer has helped those affected by the DANA storm with over 3,000 kg of food
Various towns in the Valencia region have been devastated by the tragic DANA storm that struck last week. Current and former Valencia CF players have been actively supporting those impacted by this historic flood. Cristiano Piccini has donated over 3,000 kg of food from Mexico, as he shared on VCF Radio.
His collaboration
“It was very tough, and both my wife and I struggled to see the images. We can’t help in any other way than by contributing like this, and we’ll continue to do so over the next few weeks to help things return to normal as soon as possible. At first, I needed to know the best way to help, because as you know, there are many pages that could be fraudulent, and I was afraid my donation wouldn’t reach those affected by the tragedy. I posted on X so people could help me find the best solution.”
More than a million kilos collected at the Mestalla Stadium
“This solidarity has been key to ensuring that those who have lost everything receive the necessary support, which is so important for them to stand tall again with honor and pride. The entire Spanish community has shown exemplary solidarity.”
Hearing the news
“From a distance, we didn’t quite understand what had happened, and then we started seeing all the news, photos, and videos—it hurt us a lot. We cried more than once. We’ve lived in Valencia and were very happy there. We love Valencia, its people, and the Club, and it feels as if it happened to us personally. It has deeply affected us. Valencia is our home, and the Valencian people are our people, and it pained us to see what has happened.”
Great solidarity
“This speaks volumes about the Valencian people. At the Paterna Sports City, there’s a phrase that says, ‘It’s very difficult to defeat someone who never gives up,’ a phrase I read often during my knee recovery, and it became my own—it perfectly represents the Valencian people. There’s been a lot of support from people across Spain, showing a united country.”
